Porsche 968

porsche 968The Porsche 968 was sold all over the world from 1992 to 1995 and it was hyped as the replacement for the Porsche 944. The production on the 968 ended in 1995 which ended a line of cars that started 20 years before with the 924. The actual development began on the 968 as a 944 which at the time was set to replace 944 in 1989. Many of the parts for the 944 were either modified or replaced during many points during the stages of development and then Porsche decided to introduce a variant as the new model car which was the 968.

This newer 968 was powered by an updated version of the 944, it had a straight 4engine which was displacing the 3.0 L and it was really producing 240 PS which had a 236 horsepower. The style of the 968 did resemble a bit the 928 but the look of the car was a mixture of the 993 and the 911. The chassis of the 968 was carried over from the 944S2 which also shared many parts with the 944 Turbo.

Porsche released a street legal racing car variant of the 968 called the Club Sport it has stripped out interior and racing seats but this version was only available in Europe. The United Kingdom version only was called the 968 Sport it was produced in 1994 and 1995 and only 15 were produced. Then Porsche released a turbochargers version called S and again was only released in Europe. The 968 Turbo S was at that point in 1993 was capable of 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and top speeds of 180 miles per hour.

Here in the United States 2000 Cabriolets and 2000 Coupes were imported. The 968 was Porsches last new front engine vehicle before the Cayenne SUV was introduced in 2003.
